Bit of a weird one on the E89.
Knocking noise which seems to be coming from the rear o/s corner.
Happens, but not always, when hitting a pot hole or rough bit of road, the strange thing is it only does it when on right hand lock
Only thing i can see is the bump stops at the rear dont look in very good condition but cant see that is causing the problem
Any ideas?

I may be way off here but am sure I read somewhere about springs having been put on incorrectly ( rotated wrong) caused rear knocking

You're saying o/s rear and only when the car is steering to the right in which case the car is maybe leaning to the left. So right side bumpstop wouldn't be touching.

Is there a broken o/s spring that's clunking when there's no weight on that corner?

Has the car been lowered? Shorter springs? And the spring is coming out of its seat on right hand lock?

Not been lowered but got me thinking it started after i painted the wheels so the car was up on axle stands, need to check the spring?

There are steel resonator dampers top front of the rear suspension, they are rubber mounted, just check the O/S one isn't loose and flopping about, my o/s one is much more loose than the n/s. I guess the rubber internals perish.

Thanks Niall. Will have a look this morning also checking top mounts and spring
Springs and shock including mounts all look fine, the dampers look like theyve spent 15 years being hammered with road salt etc. Rotated it now knocks when steering straight, so think first thing to change
